I haven't been at Camp Lejeune for a couple of years now. (My husband got out of the military.) I know the community doesn't seem to be active at all, but if any of the members are still active and still at Lejeune, I thought I'd offer ownership of the community before just deleting it.

You guys probably know this already, but thought I'd share anyway.

CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. - The public is invited to join the Marines at
Camp Lejeune to commemorate their 234th birthday at the Joint Daytime
Ceremony 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Liversedge Field.
The ceremony, which will rededicate the National and Marine Corps
Colors, will involve Marines from II Marine Expeditionary Force, all of its
subordinate commands and Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune.
The birthday pageant will include the traditional cake-cutting
ceremony and a procession of the Marine Corps uniforms dating from 1775 to
the present.
All generals, commanding officers and sergeants major are scheduled
to attend the event.

Another email from my FRO about the Front Gate and whats going on with it.

Putting this behind a cut because it's in all caps and I feel like he's yelling at me.Collapse )

13 October 2009 @ 12:53 pm
My FRO just sent out this email, and I thought it'd be good to know.

"From Base Traffic management.

HWY 24 OVERPASS AT MCB FRONT GATE HAS BEEN CLOSED DUE TO STRUCTURAL DAMAGE.
TRAFFIC EXITING THE FRONT GATE WILL BE LIMITED TO HWY 24 EASTBOUND (TOWARDS
SWANSBORO) ONLY. ENTRANCE TO MCB VIA THE FRONT GATE WILL ONLY BE AVAILABLE TO
EASTBOUND TRAFFIC ON HWY 24. THESE RESTRICTIONS WILL REMAIN IN PLACE UNTIL
FURTHER NOTICE. HWY 24 WILL REMAIN OPEN TO ROUTINE EAST/WEST TRAFFIC."

Hopefully I'll get an email when it's opened again.

EDIT:
Got another email from my FRO. An update and explanation for the gate closing.

"The following is a camp Lejeune Press Advisory.

October 13, 2009

Damage to Highway 24 overpass causes restricted lane use

CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. - Traffic flow over the Hwy 24 overpass at Camp Lejeune's
main gate has been restricted due to structural damage suffered when the
overpass was struck by a semi-truck passing under the overpass today at
approximately 6:30 a.m. There were no injuries, and the state immediately
dispatched structural engineers to inspect the damage.

Pending final inspection results, outgoing traffic through the main gate will
be reduced to one lane across the overpass to westbound Hwy 24, and one lane
to eastbound Hwy 24. Base personnel are highly encouraged to use the Snead's
Ferry gate for southbound travel, Bear Creek gate for eastbound travel to
Swansboro and Hubert areas, and the Piney Green gate for travel to the
Jacksonville area. These restrictions will remain in place until further
notice. Hwy 24 will remain open to routine east/west traffic.

Military and civilian personnel of tenant commands should contact their
supervisor or Command Duty Officer for further instructions."

Hope this is of use to some of you!

Every now and then, we'll have a recommendations post for different things around the Camp LeJeune/Jacksonville area. To kick this off, we'll start with apartments!
Why?
Because it's the first thing you need when you get here, and hopefully this will be able to help those of us who aren't in the area.

So, please comment with a review of the different apartment complexes you know of! We would prefer it if you actually lived in the apartment you're reviewing, but if you had a friend who did, that's cool too.
Major bonus points if you can review on-base housing!

Please fill out this form the best you can!

Hey Ya'll.

I assume everyone in on this community is around the Camp Lejeune area? If so, I really would like to have 2-3 children to watch. If any of you know someone or need someone yourself please show them the following link. I am a SAHM and my boys are in need of some companionship, we're so bored. :) Also, I am super cheap. (Whatever you can afford really) I am great with kids, and weekend are OK as long as its discussed ahead of time.
Thanks guys.
Also, I am a CNA. No longer working because I want to be a SAHM, but I have a careger background. I worked with Alzheimers patients.

So a mini update, when I did my introduction survey it said something to the effect of do you have pets, I responded No. But that I wanted Tanenr to get me one, and HE DID! She's so SUPER gorgeous,  a Jack russell Terrier and about 6 weeks old. Yes I know, young to be away from her littermates and momma, but the people were going to just LET THEM GO. :( Ugh,So sad.

We saved her, and her name is Macie. So now when he's gone for training(he leaves Monday for a month) and deployment( again) I have a puppy to keep his spot warm. Since letting children in the bed is NEVER a good idea.
